Arnold G. Blair III
Sr. Staff Attorney, WilmerHale

Mr. Blair is a senior staff attorney in the firm's Litigation/Controversy Department. He joined the firm in 2004. Mr. Blair focuses his practice on issues of e-discovery. Specifically, he works with other attorneys, litigation technology project managers, and paralegals on teams that manage electronic and other documents in large cases and investigations. Attorneys on these teams take a leadership role in the document control process, systematically tracking documents from preservation to collection and through review and production. They work with e-discovery vendors and their review and analytical tools; review documents; train and oversee other firm and contract attorneys who review documents; and partner with project managers to perform production quality control.   Mr. Blair holds his JD, cum laude, from New York Law School and BA from Rutgers University.

The Hon. Mark Cavanagh
Michigan Second District Court of Appeals
Mark J. Cavanagh is a judge on the Michigan Second District Court of Appeals. He was elected to the Court in 1988 and his current term expires January 1, 2015. Judge Cavanagh received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and his law degree from the Detroit College of Law.  Prior to his election to the Court of Appeals, Judge Cavanagh worked as a special assistant attorney general, an assistant Wayne County prosecutor and as an attorney in private practice.

 

Kunoor Chopra, Esq.

Kunoor works closely with Elevate’s strategic accounts to identify and implement solutions, and to ensure continuous improvement throughout the lifecycle of the relationship. Previously Kunoor was the Founder, President and CEO of LawScribe, a pioneer legal process outsourcing company providing litigation, corporate, and intellectual property support services to law firms and corporations. Kunoor founded LawScribe in 2004 to provide a solution to rising costs and fees associated with the legal practice. LawScribe was acquired in 2010 by UnitedLex, where Kunoor continued as Senior Vice President of Global Legal Services, working closely with her AmLaw100 and global 1000 clients to identify and implement legal solutions. Kunoor is a recognized authority in the area of legal process outsourcing, and she speaks internationally on topics including the ethical implications of outsourcing and legal innovation. She serves on the Board of Governors for the Organization of Legal Professionals as well as the Board of Directors for the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. Prior to LawScribe, Kunoor practiced as an attorney at Nossaman and at Fulbright & Jaworski in Los Angeles.

Kevin Cranman
General Counsel, Ericsson Television Inc. 
Kevin handles commercial transactions regarding telecommunications and broadcasting technologies, IP development and protection, litigation and dispute management, HR and employment issues, and whatever else darkens the door step. Previously, he served as in-house counsel and handled IP issues at Panasonic Mobile Communications, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and other technology ventures (including the obligatory dot-com experience) - and in a business role at BellSouth Intellectual Property.

Jeff has more than 15 years in the electronic evidence and information technology fields, he specializes in providing consulting and advisory services to law firms, corporations, and government clients throughout the e-discovery lifecycle. He has conducted numerous investigations ranging from theft of IP, web defacement, regulatory compliance, and many others.

Jeffrey Fowler

Partner, O'Melveny & Myers LLP

Jeffrey Fowler is a member of O'Melveny & Myers LLP Class Actions, Mass Torts, and Aggregated Litigation Practice. He is also one of the founders and leaders of the Electronic Discovery and Document Retention Practice and one of the few litigators whose litigation practice is entirely dedicated to electronic discovery issues.  Jeff consults with clients on topics related to electronic discovery, including document retention practices, data security issues, information technology usage policies, trade secret misappropriation investigations, and litigation preparedness plans. He has earned a national reputation as a noted speaker and writer on electronic discovery issues. He is a regular panelist for Strafford Teleconferences and is presently contributing to a treatise for BNA publishing. 


Ron Friedmann

Ron Friedmann has spent over two decades improving law practice and legal business operations with technology, knowledge management, process improvement, project management, and outsourcing. Ron is a consultant with Fireman and Company.   Previously, he was a senior executive at the legal process outsourcing and e-discovery company Integreon, a solo consultant, CIO at Mintz Levin, a manager at two legal software companies, head of practice support at Wilmer Cutler (now WilmerHale), and a strategy consultant at Bain & Company.
 
Ron has a JD from NYU Law, is a trustee of the College of Law Practice Management,  founded and organizes the DC Large Law Firm KM Group;  publishes numerous articles, blogs at Strategic Legal Technology, Tweets @ronfriedmann, and speaks at many professional conferences

 Daniel Garrie, Esq.

Thomas Gricks

Tom Gricks is a partner in the Litigation Services Department of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, and Chair of the Firm’s e-Discovery Practice Group, as well as managing the Firm’s Litigation Support Department.  As such, he is directly involved in the creation and organization of internal e-Discovery databases.  He is also an approved e-Discovery Special Master for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.  His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation matters, implicating all aspects of e-Discovery, from litigation hold procedures, through collection, processing, culling, review and production.  He has personally used and overseen the application of predictive coding to e-Discovery projects exceeding eight terabytes of data, and he has counseled clients on the selection of e-Discovery vendors for both predictive coding and analytical review.  He speaks and writes frequently on e‑Discovery issues, and was responsible for arguing the Global Aerospace case, obtaining the first order in the country authorizing the use of predictive coding over the objection of the opposing party.

Nick Hariton, Esq.

Nicholas T. Hariton has been the Managing Director & Counsel of Imaging Presentation Partners since 1994.  With more than a decade of experience as a Trial Consultant, he is a well-respected leader in the field. Coming from O’Melveny & Myers, LLP, where he served as a bank-side LBO lawyer in the Bank and Financial Institutions Group, Mr. Hariton formed Imaging Presentation Partners in 1994. Mr. Hariton began his Trial Consulting career with the first successful litigation against Microsoft Corporation (Stac Electronics v. Microsoft Corporation) and has assisted Exxon Mobil in its successful Municipality Diverted Services trial in Anchorage, Alaska.  He has crafted “juror friendly” trial presentations for hundreds of Trial Teams throughout the country. He is a well-respected speaker and on the Advisory Committee of the ABA.

Sara Hook, M.L.S, M.B.A., J.D.

Sara Anne Hook is Professor of Informatics at the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI, where she has developed a suite of courses for an online undergraduate certificate in legal informatics. She has also taught courses as Adjunct Professor of Law at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indiana University, and Adjunct Professor of American Studies, School of Liberal Arts, IUPUI. Professor Hook was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1994 and to the Supreme Court of the United States in 2012. Formerly, she was a librarian at the Indiana University School of Dentistry (1983-1999) and Associate Dean of the Faculties for IUPUI (1999-2004). Professor Hook is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) and the American Association for State and Local History. She is on the Editorial Boards for the AIPLA Quarterly Journal and Res Gestae, a member of the Advisory Committee for the International Legal Technology Standards Organization (ILTSO).  

                    Dominic Jaar, Esq. National Leader, Information Management and E-Discovery at KPMG

Dominic is a partner in KPMG’s Forensic Practice, focusing on supporting legal departments, mainly from an Information Management (IM) and eDiscovery (EDD) standpoint, as well as providing thought leadership to improve their management.  Dominic teaches e‑commerce and Internet law at the University of Montreal and is a guest speaker on legal technology, information management and e-discovery at different North American universities and international conferences. He has recently been recognized for the second year as one of Canada’s leading lawyer in e-Commerce and Internet Law.

Prior to joining KPMG, Dominic was the CEO of the Canadian Centre for Court Technology and the president of Ledjit Consulting, Canada’s leading IM and EDD firm, bridging the gap between IT and the Law™, which was acquired by KPMG. Before founding Ledjit, Dominic was an in-house counsel at Bell Canada and a commercial litigator in one of Canada’s largest law firm where he focused on IT and complex litigation.

Dominic was involved in the development of many international standards and best practices regarding IM, EDD as well as law and technology. He has supported a number of multinational organizations in the assessment of their IM and EDD capacity, in the development and implementation of IM and EDD strategy, policy and technology, and in-sourcing all phases of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model. He also worked with legal departments and law firms to improve their management, leverage technology and improve efficiency and productivity.

Mr. Kiker’s strong technical background, extensive business process experience, and over eighteen years of complex litigation experience combine to make him uniquely qualified to offer business process and legal advice to clients dealing with information governance and electronic discovery challenges. Mr. Marean serves on DLA Piper's Technology Committee and is an emeritus member of the California State Bar Law Practice Management Committee. He is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association Ethics Committee and the Sedona Conference.

Mr. Marean is a nationally known teacher and lecturer on various topics including electronic discovery, records retention, knowledge management and computer technology. He is co-author of the 2008 edition of Electronic Discovery and Records Management Guide, Rules, Checklists and Forms, published by Thomson West, and Conducting Discovery in an Electronic World: Electronic Data and Discovery, published by California Civil Discovery Practice. He has been named a San Diego Super Lawyer.

Douglass A. Mitchell (Chairperson of the Board of Governors)

Douglass A. Mitchell is a partner with the law firm of Boies, Schiller & Flexner.  In 1995, the Federal District Court Judges in Nevada appointed him to be a mentor in the district’s criminal defense training program.  In his capacity as a mentor, he trains and prepares defense attorneys to practice criminal law in the United States District Court for the District of Nevada.  He has served as Chairman of the Attorney Advisory Committee on Implementation of CM/ECF electronic case filing system for the Federal District Court for the District of Nevada.  Mr. Mitchell has also been a member of the Local Working Group on Electronic Technology in the Criminal Justice System for the Federal District Court for the District of Nevada and a member of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts Office of Defender Services Ad Hoc Expert Panel on Litigation Support in Criminal Justice Act Cases.  Mr. Mitchell is a member of the Joint Electronic Technology Working Group, a joint Department of Justice and Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts national working group formed to develop best practices for the efficient and cost-effective management of post-indictment ESI discovery in federal criminal cases.  He is also the Chairman of the Board of Governors for the Organization of Legal Professionals, an organization promoting and establishing guidelines and standards for legal professionals on e-discovery and related subjects, evaluate competency of legal professionals in those areas, and establish resources for quality certification.

Nigel Murray
Managing Director, Huron
Nigel Murray has been at the forefront of providing electronic document management services since the early 1990s. He began his career in legal technology as litigation support manager at a major London-based international law firm. He then started the first British litigation support company in 1993 - Bowhawk. There, he worked on the massive cases of the 90’s - tobacco, BCCI etc. From there, Nigel brought the electronic side of litigation support into an existing document management company by way of a merger. Having worked on the first UK eDisclosure matter in 2001, Nigel has been at the forefront of the development of the industry within the major law firms in the UK. Nigel launched TRILANTIC in September of 2005 and speaks regularly on all aspects of eDiscovery in the US, the UK and mainland Europe. 

 


Rick Nalle, PMP
Director, Advisory Services, KPMG LLP

Rick Nalle is a Director with KPMG LLP’s Forensic Advisory Services practice where he is a member of the Forensic Technology Services (FTS) group. Rick has over twenty years of experience in project execution and client service delivery and has been managing electronic discovery engagements since 2004. He communicates across the entire KPMG Forensic organization to coordinate multiple projects and quality assurance. Rick is most often the first point of contact to identify client requirements and he ensures that the most appropriate KPMG resources are assigned to projects so that all client needs are met.

Mr. Nalle serves as Engagement Director for several key discovery management clients including global technology companies conducting internal investigations and responding to SEC/DOJ requests, global energy companies responding to civil litigation, public utility companies responding to civil litigation and state and federal investigations and financial institutions/broker dealers responding to government inquiries.

Prior to joining KPMG in 2006, Mr. Nalle served in engagement management roles at litigation consulting and electronic discovery organizations. In his career, he also served as a technology and operations executive for Virgin Digital Studios (now a part of Liberty Media), Fox Entertainment and the Walt Disney Company.


Patrick Oot (Past Board Member)

Patrick is Director of Electronic Discovery and Senior Litigation Counsel at Verizon in Washington, D.C. Inside Counsel Magazine named Verizon's e-discovery team as one of the ten most innovative legal groups of 2006 and 2007. Patrick has extensive experience in discovery practices involving commercial litigation, regulatory filings, and antitrust matters. He is charged with advising Verizon's business units on electronic discovery while developing new technologies and strategies that meet the goals of Rule 1 of The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. He has also testified as Verizon's 30(b)(6) witness for discovery-related inquiries in other matters. Patrick has testified before the United States Judicial Conference's Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Evidence where he presented Verizon's position and contributed language included in its draft to the Judicial Conference. Patrick actively participates in The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Product. He lectures regularly at educational events, legal conferences, and general counsel round tables internationally.


Fernando Pinguelo

Fernando M. Pinguelo, a trial lawyer and Chair of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus’ Cyber Security & Data Protection Group, devotes his practice to complex litigation with an emphasis on business disputes, cyber security, media, and employment matters.

A former prosecutor, Fernando is experienced in all facets of litigation (trial, mediation, arbitration, and appellate) in both federal and state courts. A leader in the emerging areas of cyber law and electronic discovery, Fernando works closely with clients to develop strategies for managing business and legal issues relating to electronic data. He recognizes the financial and public relations fallout that often result from high-profile data breaches; and, when a rapidly evolving crisis hits, Fernando mobilizes his interdisciplinary team of professionals to mitigate damages.

Recently, Fernando provided commentary on proposed federal legislation concerning cyber security, and received a Fulbright Specialist appointment for his work in eDiscovery. Notably, he was involved in NJ's first case addressing its new eDiscovery rule amendments; designed a law course on eDiscovery, which he teaches at Seton Hall Law; and created the ABA Journal award-winning blog eLessons Learned. Fernando serves on court committees where he contributes to court rule amendments. He also lectured at the Judicial College, which provides judges with academic programs; and clerked for the Hon. Edwin H. Stern.

Herb Roitblat, Ph.D.

Herb is a co-founder and principal at OrcaTec LLC. Before starting Orcatec, Herb was Executive Vice President, Chief Scientist, and co-founder of DolphinSearch. He is the primary inventor of the core DolphinSearch technology (patent No. 6,189,002). Herb led the design of the DolphinSearch review tools, DIAD, and ComplianSeek, and was part of the team that brought concept searching and native file review to the eDiscovery industry. He was also responsible for DolphinSearch’s Federal Market efforts.  Herb is a recognized expert in cognitive science, information management, data mining, statistics, and eDiscovery processes. He has been writing about data mining and how technology can ease the burden of eDiscovery. Herb was an award-winning Professor of Psychology at the University of Hawaii from 1985 until 2002. He taught courses in cognitive science and research methods. He has a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California-Berkeley. He served as Assistant Professor of Psychology at Columbia University until he joined the faculty at the University of Hawaii. Herb is a Past President of the Division of Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology of the American Psychological Association and Past President of the International Society for Adaptive Behavior. In 2002, he received the Clifford T. Morgan award for distinguished contributions to behavioral neuroscience.


George Rudoy

Eddie Sheehy

Eddie has been instrumental in helping Nuix secure government and commercial customers in over 30 countries across the world, including all of the major corporate regulators, advisory firms and corporations.  Born and educated in Ireland, Eddie has 18 years’ experience in finance, technology and running legal technology companies. Eddie holds a Bachelor degree in Commerce and a Masters degree in Finance from the University College Cork (Ireland).

Madison S. Spach, Jr.
Spach, Capaldi & Waggaman, LLP

Madison received his J.D. degree from the Duke University School of Law. He has extensive experience litigating complex, often multiform, business and media asset disputes. A large portion of Mr. Spach's practice has consisted of representing media and video game companies in constitutional claims involving state and municipal agencies. Mr. Spach is a frequent speaker on law office technology and developments in electronic discovery. Mr. Spach has served as an adjunct professor at Whittier Law School, teaching Election Law. Selected to: Southern California Super Lawyers 2009, 2008, and 2007.


Jennifer G. Swanton, Esq.

Ms. Swanton is responsible for managing the preservation, collection, processing and review of data needed in response to a variety of legal matters as well as developing and implementing long-term team strategy.  Prior to joining Medtronic, Ms. Swanton worked as both a Project Manager and Technical Sales Consultant at an eDiscovery vendor where she consulted with law firms and corporations on the best approach for their eDiscovery needs.  Before transitioning to the eDiscovery field, Ms. Swanton worked at the South Carolina Court of Appeals as both a Staff Attorney and Law Clerk.  Ms. Swanton is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School, The George Washington University School of Business, and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Joseph Thorpe began his career in the IT industry in 1973 with Wang Laboratories and became the West Coast Director of Wang Laboratories Legal Solutions Group. He was responsible for the planning and design that resulted in several leading Los Angeles based law firm's first step into automated litigation support via large integrated mini-based computer systems using the Wang VS-IIS technologies.  Mr. Thorpe has been a pioneer in the application of AI based OCR and document coding solutions, Machine Language Translation technologies as well as Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) algorithms for concept searching and document cataloging as well as cross lingual document searching (concept searching across languages). His particular expertise lies in design and delivery of unified litigation support systems, which unite both paper and ESI evidence into a single multi-functional repository.  Mr. Thorpe is frequent speaker and panelist on the use of specialized Litigation support and document indexing and management technologies in numerous meetings of attorneys, including: The American Bar Association, California Bar Association, The Rutter Group, The National Business Institute and Lorman.

David Werblow is currently Senior Corporate Counsel, eDiscovery at T-Mobile in Seattle, WA. In addition to overseeing e-discovery at T-Mobile, Werblow serves as an instructor in the trend-setting Electronic Discovery Management program conducted at the University of Washington Professional and Continuing Education. Before joining T-Mobile, he was a staff lawyer in the e-Discovery Analysis and Technology group at K&L Gates, where he managed intensive discovery efforts and provided advice and support on every aspect of discovery, from litigation readiness to preservation, through collection, review and production of documents. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota, and his B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin.
